OUR STORY
1988
The owners -- Alex and Nina emigrated from the former Soviet Union. With three young kids in tow, they embraced this new beginning and were energized to make the most of the opportunities now at their fingertips.
1992
Alex started selling produce from the back of a truck in North Philadelphia. His youngest son, Dan (6 years old at the time), was his constant companion, rising early to help with loading produce and serving customers.
1999
Alex and Nina purchased a property in the Germantown section of Philadelphia, and A & N House of Produce opened its doors in June. Nina was the central force behind redesigning this abandoned building. Alex was sourcing produce at the Wholesale Produce Market in Philadelphia six days a week. And their three kids were doing shifts on the register on weekends. Very soon, the store on Greene Street became a valuable resource for the local community.
2003
Our partnership with Dietz & Watson began. A&N began offering cut lunch meat and cheese at our deli counter. Made-to-order sandwiches and hoagies followed shortly after.
2008
Dan, after graduating from college, started managing the store on Greene Street. He made many improvements to the operation, most notably increasing the variety of our produce offering and introducing a full line of dairy products, nuts, spices, and other grocery items.
2013
Dan became Alex's business partner and took on responsibilities with buying the produce to stock the store. He can still be seen at the Philadelphia Wholesale Produce Market hand selecting and tasting fresh fruit and vegetables daily.
2015
Alex & Nina's daughter, Elana joined the business full time and expanded our offerings into the food preparation space. She introduced our line of freshly cut-up fruits, vegetables, and ready-to-eat soups. Today, she spends much of her time managing day-to-day business operations and back-office work.
2020
The second A&N store location opens in the West Oak Lane section of Philadelphia.

2020-2021
During the pandemic, it was all hands on deck. Dan's wife, Sylvia launched a curbside service for customers, and developed our own line of fresh cold-pressed juices. Elana's husband, Henri helped with logistics and community outreach, while also overseeing the development of our new Huntingdon Pike location.
2023
We are thrilled to be opening the third A & N location in Huntingdon Valley!
A & N House of Produce was built on the foundation of family values, a strong work ethic, and a deep appreciation of the opportunities that come with the American Dream.
And A&N continues to thrive thanks to our wonderful staff -- our greatest treasure -- who have embraced these values and built something special by our side.
With the added enthusiasm of the third generation on the horizon, we will continue to build onto that solid footing!
